Stick Marsh & Farm 13

Capt. George Welcome
February 4, 2006
Stick Marsh-Farm 13 - Freshwater Fishing Report

2/2/2006  Today I spent the day

fishing with Harry Oberstreet from Harrisburg, IL. The weather man was calling

for 15-20mph winds: shiners would definitely be the best choice for catching

bass on the open waters of the lake today.

Harry objective:  A bass over 10-pounds the the

Stick Marsh/Farm 13 is so famous for. With the live well loaded with 5-dozen

shiners we left the ramp at 6:45am and headed to the SW corner of Farm 13.

I anchored the boat in an area I have been fishing for

the past month and never moved all day except to reposition the boat due to

the wind. I explained to Harry that the bass will bite in spurts and that it

is extremely important that we do not move.

The bass took a little while to get going but once they

got started thee bite was steady for the rest of the day. At 10:15am a large

shiner was smashed! Upon seeing the boil the bass made I let Harry know that

this was the big bass, (no pressure there). Harry set the hook and the fight

began. Harry stayed one step ahead in his fight with this big girl, and with a

Cheshire cat grin he landed his first 10 pound bass.

By the end of the day Harry landed 27 bass plus 3

catfish. During the day several good sized bass were caught  including

another big girl which weighed 7lbs.

The bass are very fat right know and need to be handled

very carefully. Make sure after you keep a bass out of the water for weighing

and photos to hold her in the water by her tail until she is completely

revived.
