Stick Marsh-Farm 13 - Freshwater Fishing Report

The weather here in Florida has been playing serious tricks on us, with temperatures down into the 30's at night and winds blowing during the day up to 25 MPH. Friday the weather was decent and I got out and did a little fishing for myself.
Working in the NW corner of the Stick Marsh I began throwing a chrome/blue rattletrap banging it off the brush on the bottom that is very prevalent in here. The fifth cast got me the first fish of the day and she weighed in at 12.8 lbs. The only fishing I did that day was in the NW corner and got a total of 25 fish there from daylight till 1:00.
The trip Saturday started out cold and windy. We fished the NW corner of the Marsh for most of the day and put 20 fish on the line. Two lunkers, (I'll just say over ten lbs), gave us a great deal of delight and encouragement even with the wind and cold. There back in the water now and bedding down for a good nights sleep. Had a fantastic day with two gentlemen and avid fishermen from Indiana. Dennis and Randy are here for the whole week and I hope the weather helps them out a little. We did get onto the Farm to check it out but wind conditions were such that fishing was difficult back there.
Sunday I thought I would put in a little time for myself and headed back to the NW corner of the Marsh with temperatures in the 30's and a slight breeze blowing. Within a half hour the breeze turned into a stiff wind and blew me about the water like a cork. After catching only two fish and freezing my very bones, I called it quits and went home at 11:00 to lick my wounds. All in all however, the weekend was a great one with many memories of good fish, great friends, and great fishing companions.
The NW corner of the Marsh has been outstanding for the last month and baits of choice would be a rattletrap or small crankbait. Work them close to apparent cover and along the bottom banging against all the brush. A Carolina rigged worm with a 1/4 oz weight will also produce in here. Have a good lure retriever as you will get hung up a lot in here but it is worth it. If you have no lure retriever place the boat directly over the lure and crank down till the lure is against the pole. Swish the pole in a circle and in most cases your lure will be free.
On the Farm look for pre-spawn conditions in the SW corner and fish holding in the boat trails and associated intersections. Carolina rigged worms and Lizards in light colors; rattletraps, spinners, and top water are all excellent baits to try.
