Stick Marsh & Farm 13

Stick Marsh-Farm 13 - Freshwater Fishing Report

Stick Marsh bass Hitting Hard

Wind and stumps have made for very hazardous conditions for both fishermen and their equipment this week on these waters. Conditions on the Stick Marsh have proven this with trolling motors being snapped off boats and fishermen being thrown into the water as boats encountered stumps and came to a quick halt. Large fish holding in the stump fields in the extreme SW corner of the farm have drawn huge crowds of both artificial bait fishermen and shiner fishing. The mornings have been somewhat calm but within short order the winds have picked up and kicked in excess of 18 miles an hour making conditions tough back there. These conditions are expected through this weekend with a break coming next week, however east winds are part of the diet at this time of the year. Fish in the SW corner are holding tight to the stumps and if you put the bait on target a good size fish will be your reward. Texas rigged worms using either no weight or 1/8 oz of lead are the baits of choice. Some early AM top water occurs but backs off quickly after the sun is up. Some of the fish that were deep in the SW corner are moving back out into the farm and rattletraps worked along the hydrilla banks and around the stumps and trees will get you results. Fish are also being found on the boat trails but fishing them has been difficult with the winds. The NW area of the Stick Marsh still has fish and rattletraps ticking the brush on the bottom will encourage a bite here and there. Not the heavy hitting conditions of a couple of weeks ago but still some nice fish can be had in this area. The pump has been running a couple of days this week but the usual draw of large schools of fish did not accompany the pumping. We did get fish, but sporadically, and most were small. Yesterday some nice fish were taken on shiners at the spillway area by a friend, which shows this to be an area to always check out. Be careful out there, don’t be bashful about trying different baits as many different things are working right now, and have great time fishing.
