Stick Marsh & Farm 13

Capt. George Welcome

Stick Marsh-Farm 13 - Freshwater Fishing Report

Water Temperature: 89

Water Clarity: 1 foot

I just cannot see how the fishing on this fabulous fishery could get any better. The action is such that even the mid-day heat does not make you want to fade and leave the water.

Tuesday's trip with Rick and Matt Taylor was such that they can't wait to get back. The top water bite went from the start of the day until we quit. We also threw some worms, spinnerbaits and rattle traps and all were successful. In addition Matt kept me in stitches as he reeled in fish and fish and then claimed there were no fish in the area. Father and son had a great time and Matt lost a big one to a broken spinner bait. 110 made it to the boat with probably a 1/3 as many not making it.

Wednesday trip with Danny Gill was a repeat with top water bite again the technique for the day. 83 bass rose to the occassion with today producing some big bass. One at 10+ and another at 7+, plus many 4-5 pound bass came to us throughout the day. The heat was something else on Wednesday and we were wading in the water to cool off as early as 9:30 AM.

The location of these bass is off the boat trails (old irrigation ditches) and south of the E/W canal. They are scattered about wherever you find hydrilla. The hydrilla is coming back strong in the Farm.

Thursday I had work done to the motor and went out late in the day to test the motor and see what was happening. We ran into Danny Gill who reported having a fantastic day and he came along with us. The wind came up from a late day storm and blew quite hard and t-storms coming in from the west put a quick end to our evening fishing.

Water levels continue to shrink and getting to the rim canal through the Stick Marsh gets more and more difficult. On the Farm if you are not extremely careful when approaching any of the irrigation canals you will hit the levees with the shallow water. Be very careful in there.
