Coromandel - Saltwater Fishing Report

Hey All!
Well the fishing for May has been truly superb!
With winter just around the corner the water is cooling down and the hapuku (our groper and the tastiest fish in the ocean!) have moved and they are just suckers for jigs!

Soft plastic fishing is the way to catch snapper at this time of year and this awesome snapper was taken from 3 metres of water on a 5 inch Gulp lime tiger within seconds of the ramp on the way home! It sure pulled some string!

And our kingfish fishing has been amazing. From the shallow water where the kingfish are balling up bait and will take livebaits within metres of the boat...

...to out wide where 100 kingfish on jigs has been obtainable some days with everything from small rats up to 25kg fish on the jigs.

Yep - that is why May is hard to beat when it comes to choosing a month to fish here in New Zealand. They are all good but some months are simply better than others!!
