Red Hot Yellowtail Fishing in New Zealand

Coromandel - Saltwater Fishing Report

Howdy All

The kingi fishing continues here in New Zealand. Our jigging trips are producing some awesome sessions with fifty plus kingis in a day, most released to fight another day. The biggest from last week was 23kg, a good sized fish taken jigging as kingis will do everything they can to bust you in the reef below.

We spotted a window in the weather last week and went out wide to look for a 'trifecta' - kingfish, hapuku (a very nice tasting NZ fish) and snapper in the same day.

We started off with a good jigging session with thirty hard fighting kingis and once the arms got sore everyone was very relieved to go and have a rest and drift for some hapuku. Ten minutes in and the traditional bouncing of the rod tip suggested a 'puka had come for a look at our whole squid bait 80m below. Sure enough the rod doubled over on a nice fish.

Finally we rounded off the day drifting with softbaits for some nice string pulling snapper.

Beautiful winter conditions, great fishing and beautiful scenery - what more can you ask for!

All the best
Carl
